A Pair of Kingston Pottery Hull Dickens Character Jugs – “Convid” & “Mrs Bumble”


An engaging and expressive pair of mid-20th century English character jugs produced by Kingston Pottery of Hull, depicting figures from the works of Charles Dickens.


Each jug is richly modelled with exaggerated period facial features and expressive detail, the sculpted hats forming the rim and the rear handles cleverly integrated into the design. The hand-painted glazes highlight the warmth of the faces and costume detailing, finished in a traditional high-gloss glaze.


The bases are fully marked:

• Charles Dickens “Mrs Bumble”

• Kingston Pottery Hull – Made in England


Height: approximately 19–20 cm.


Condition is good vintage overall, with even age-related crazing to the glaze consistent with period manufacture. One example has a small rim chip (clearly shown). No visible restoration.
