Height: 5 inches
Width: 7 inches
First Modeled: 1960
Material: Porcelain with a wooden base

Features:
Collectible Value: These bookends are part of the Goebel M.I. Hummel collection, making them a valuable addition to any Hummel or figurine collection.
Design: Hand-painted with exquisite detail, showcasing the classic Hummel style.
Origins: Produced in the 1960s, these pieces reflect the craftsmanship of the era.
Story of it:This piece is one half of a bookend set that was created by adapting the "Little Goat Herder" figurines (HUM 200) and mounting them onto a wooden base with a slatted fence that serves as a book rest. The identification marks and trademark are placed on the wooden base because the figurine's base is concealed. This modified version of the figurine first appeared around 1965 and was priced at $26.50 for the set, known as HUM 250 A&B. Typically, these bookends are found with trademark designs ranging from TMK-3 to TMK-6. However, there is a possibility of encountering an earlier TMK-2 mark due to unique cases within Goebel's productions. Goebel marked these items as "temporarily withdrawn" (TW) from production on December 31, 1989, with no specified date for reinstatement. Historical records reveal that these bookends were crafted by a group of modelers in 1960 and were first made available in the U.S. market in 1964.

The man is seated with a pipe in hand, leaning toward the woman who gestures in response, capturing a moment of rustic charm and storytelling. At their feet lies a curious cat and a small footstool, all set on an ornate base with gold embellishments. This large and detailed piece reflects a traditional European pastoral style, popular in the 1940s–1950s, and was likely made for export, as indicated by the "Foreign" backstamp – a common mark used post-WWII for items imported into the UK from Germany, Japan, and other countries. The signature Fuji Figure and outline of Mt. Fuji suggest a Japanese origin, though made to emulate the classical German or Capodimonte styles of the time.

Condition:This set is in remarkably good condition for its age. While a thorough inspection is recommended, we note the following:
Lady Figurine: No visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The colors remain vibrant, and the delicate floral accents are largely intact. There may be some minor age-related crazing, which is typical for porcelain of this period and does not detract from its beauty.
Boy Figurine:he has a broken hand, A very small, discreet chip is present on the edge of one of the floral appliqués on the base, which is barely noticeable unless inspected closely. The rest of the figurine is in excellent condition with no other visible damage.
General Condition: Both pieces show minor wear consistent with age, including some light rubbing to the gilded accents. The base of each figurine is unmarked, which is not uncommon for pieces of this era. Please examine all photos carefully as they form an integral part of the description. We have tried to capture the pieces from all angles to accurately represent their condition.
This beautiful pair would make a fantastic gift for a collector or a wonderful heirloom to be cherished for generations. Don't miss the opportunity to own a piece of history.
